In the past few months, I've been toying with the idea of incorporating floral designs into my work. But, for a long time, I was stuck without a clear direction.
Recently, after some deep thought, I realized I was unsure how to create a less delicate-looking flower. It was this uncertainty that had been holding me back.
During my casual strolls, I often find myself drawn to the various petal-shaped rings and earrings in stores or magazines. The different petal contours exude a delicate yet gentle aura. Interestingly, the petal ring I bought seems to have ended up just lying in my drawer 😆. Deep down, I think I still prefer cleaner lines.
Finally, I arrived at a floral design of my own. I wanted it to be simple, yet its gentle and attractive aspects presented in a more neutral manner. Clean lines, with a bit more heft to the overall design.
Though the design is not complex, it took several tries with different ring proportions before I settled on the two sizes I wanted. I also learned from the goldsmith that a too-small contact area on the ring can lead to casting failures. Despite many rounds of prototyping, it's always surprising how every conversation with the master craftsman brings new learning.
